STANBIC AND NEMCHEM ENSURE HONE STUDENTS CAN STUDY SAFELY

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA Stanbic Bank Zambia and Nemchem International Limited have joined forces to augment the fight against COVID-19 at Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce in Lusaka.

The country’s largest commercial bank donated four Infrared Thermometers and 10 hand washing basins worth K10,000, while the top cleaning company fumigated the administration block, the library, and all 11 accommodation blocks at the higher learning institution over the weekend.

The move is aimed at creating a safe living and learning environment for graduating students at the college, following government’s directive to reopen their classes on July 1 under the new normal.

Stanbic Bank Zambia Head of Public Relations and Communications Chanda Chime Katongo said the gesture was a great opportunity for the commercial bank to give back to the community.

“Students need a clean, safe environment in which to study. As Stanbic Bank, we believe it can be. These items will go a long way in preventing the spread of COVID-19 among students,” she stressed.

“So far, their numbers are quite low because it’s mostly examination classes that are back. But our hope is that students will come back and there will be no spread at this particular compass,” Ms Katongo added.

Evelyn Hone College of Applied Arts and Commerce has a total of over 8,000 students and 300 members of staff at full capacity.

Ms Katongo thanked Nemchem for their support and called on other corporates in the private sector to join Stanbic Bank Zambia in boosting the fight against COVID-19 in the country.

“I would like to urge all private sector organisations to come on board. This is a great opportunity for us to help in the fight against COVID-19. Come on board, and let's see what we can do as a united front, and how we can help,” she stressed.

The Stanbic Bank Zambia head of public relations and communications also underscored the importance of partnerships and said: “When you partner with an organisation, you're able to help even wider and broader”.

And, Nemchem International Limited Contracts Director Michelle Buratto counted it an honour to partner with Stanbic Bank Zambia in supplementing government efforts aimed combating COVID-19 at a public institution such as Evelyn Hone College.

"We are grateful to partner with our stakeholder – Stanbic Bank – In supporting Government efforts in fighting the pandemic," she said.

Ms Buratto emphasised that the cleaning company placed the health of citizens as priority.

"Our business just like during the cholera outbreak will continue to put the health of Zambians as a priority. This is not the end; it is an ongoing exercise until we all concur this deadly pandemic," she noted.

Meanwhile, Evelyn Hone College Principal Daniel Fwamba expressed heartfelt gratitude to Stanbic and Nemchem for the donation and the fumigation exercise.

“Your good gesture is indeed a testimony that you are caring institutions, which put people at the centre of your operations. The spraying of our campus, and the items that you have donated, have helped us fill a big gap in our needs,” he noted.

Mr Fwambo also called for continued collaboration between his college and the two captains of industry.

“It is our hope that today will mark the beginning of closer collaboration between our college and your institutions as I have no doubt at all that there are many areas that we can work together for the ultimate good of our institutions,” said the Evelyn Hone College principal.
